Dream symbols: The colour pink and what it means

Biblical symbolism of the colour pink in dreams, what that means in practice, with real dream examples.

Have you ever wondered what the colour pink means as a dream symbol?

In this article we will take inspiration from the bible to investigate the spiritual meaning of pink in dreams, and what that means for us in practical terms.

We will explore its meaning in positive and negative contexts, with some real dream examples too!

I approach dream interpretation from a biblical perspective. My belief is that our dreams can come from God, and understanding them is best understood within the context of an ongoing relationship with Him.

The symbolic nature of dreams

Firstly, if you have just come across this post and are new to dream interpretation, it is worth mentioning that dreams are symbolic in nature. You might find it helpful to read the following articles: Understand your dreams: A bible-based introduction to dream language and Beginner’s guide to biblical dream interpretation.

Secondly, remember that dreams are personal, so the meanings that I suggest may not apply to your specific dream. But please feel free to use my ideas as a springboard to thinking and praying about dreams yourself. Don’t take my ideas as gospel, but rather let them help you start to think metaphorically.

Introducing the colour pink!

Pink is a diverse colour in nature: There are the delicate pink cyclamen, the dark-centred geraniums, the striking salmon-pink gladioli and the rich cerise colour of the dahlias.

This variety is also reflected in our dreams. Pink can be a gentle colour, hinting at romance, and femininity. But it can also be vibrant too – sometimes even a hot pink – suggesting feelings, passions and hot emotions.

As with any dream symbol, each colour can potentially have both positive and negative meanings. The context, feeling and atmosphere of a dream will give us clues to help us determine whether to interpret it in a positive or negative way.

So let’s explore what pink could mean!

More positive and negative contextx of dreams…

Meaning of pink in dreams

There is no mention of the colour pink in the bible. However, pink is symbolic of love, relationship, and emotions – and the bible has much to say about these things. This can help us understand how God might use pink in a dream.

Pink as our relationship with God

I have discovered that our dreams often give insight into our relationship with God. I am convinced that God longs to be in relationship with every single person on the planet – so it’s not surprising to me that this is a common dream theme.

When I dream about pink, it is usually about my relationship with God. In Christian circles, we often talk about intimacy with God. The deeper the pink, the deeper the level of intimacy with God.

The deeper the pink, the deeper the level of intimacy with God.

What is intimacy with God?

The bible tells us that ‘God is love’ (1 John 4:8). As we walk out our life in relationship with God over time, we can experience His love firsthand. Eventually, if we come to know His ways, we start to feel loved and to trust Him.

  • Zephaniah 3:17, NASB The Lord your God… will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.
  • Romans 5:5, NASB The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

As time goes on, our life becomes transformed, and we start to reflect God’s love in our lives. We know who we are and we know more about who God is; His heart and His ways. This is true intimacy. This inevitably affects the way we relate to other people and the world.

  • 1 John 4:7, NASB Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God.

What that means in practice

If your desire is to know God better, it can be really encouraging to dream of a deep pink colour, and to know that your heart is becoming more in tune with God’s heart.

These dreams can also alert us when we need to particularly invest in our relationship with God. Maybe we need to spend some time with God – whatever that looks like for you. For me it usually a call to spend time reviewing my dreams with Him.

Occasionally I have dreamed of a cloudy pink, which has indicated that my intimacy with God was off in some way; for example, once I was out of tune with His heart for me.

Other clues that the pink could be about intimacy

Here are some more dream symbols that can be about intimacy. If these are also present in the dream, it’s a big clue the dream is about our relationship with God:

  • Wedding, wedding dress, bride, etc.
  • Bedroom, pillows
  • Flowers

Dream examples of pink as intimacy with God

DREAMINTERPRETATIONEXPLANATION
I dreamed it was night and a battle was going on. I had my pink pillow and was trying to find a space to put it down to lie on, even though it was busy.I was struggling for direction, but also going through a busy patch. This dream was telling me to find ways to make time with God – and things would improve as a result.Night-time represented difficult times, but also struggling to hear God (lack of light/direction). The pink pillow represented intimacy with God.
I dreamed I was getting ready for a wedding wearing a black dress. I wanted my cerise cardigan to go with it, but it kept getting caught up. I was rushing. This was letting me know that there was something up soon that I didn’t know about yet. This was a heads-up to seek God now – so I could be ready and not caught out by it.The black is mystery (something not yet revealed). The pink cardigan represented intimacy (for me this would be going through my dreams).
I dreamed a friend was getting married. We had converted a room into a cerise pink hairdressing salon as a surprise. This was an encouragement that my intimacy of God was growing; it would soon lead to a change of thinking – as I started to understand God’s heart. This happened later that year. The wedding was about intimacy. The friend was reflecting me. Hair is usually wisdom and understanding. Cerise pink was deeper intimacy.
I was trying to get dressed but couldn’t because my pink trainers were totally missing.I was struggling to find direction at that time. This dream told me I needed to start listening to my dreams again – which I had been neglecting. I did – and things improved!Shoes are about things we do, or ‘walk in’; so pink shoes could be whatever you do to find intimacy with God. For me – that meant reviewing my dreams.

Pink as emotions

Magenta and pink can be used to symbolize our emotions and feelings.

Feelings are a wonderful part of the human experience – and help us live our lives at a deeper level. They can help us connect and relate with each other and with God’s heart. They can also be a helpful indicator of what is going on under the surface of our lives.

But feelings can be unhelpful if they get out of control and lead us to unwise responses! They can also deceive us, because they are not always an accurate reflection of the truth!

Emotions in a negative context

If pink appears in a negative context, it could be alerting us that our emotions are becoming unhelpful or out of control! This could be because of the unpleasant shade of pink (or ‘hot’ pink for emotions out of control); or maybe the dream is dark or negative feeling.

Here are some examples of how pink appeared in a negative context:

DREAMINTERPRETATIONEXPLANATION
I dreamed it was night-time. I saw what looked like a huge plastic child’s pink tea set go past. I was advised to keep going and not look to the right or the left. This dream was advising me not to let my feelings be my judge of the current situation. I should just keep going and trust what God had already shown me.Night-time represented difficult times. The pink tea set was weird/unnatural, indicating a negative context: my feelings were not helping me.
A friend dreamed that someone dressed in bright pink was trying to manipulate them into buying something that they knew was wrong. This dream was alerting them that they were in danger of letting their emotions take over – and in this case their feelings were off! They needed to go back to what they knew was true.  We can see that this was a negative context of pink because the person in the dream was trying to manipulate them.

More meanings of pink in dreams

Pink for girls: In some cultures, blue is symbolic of a baby girl (as blue is for boys). Girls and women can be symbolic of gifts or ministries, so pink could also represent these. A pale pink would be a new ministry area, and a darker pink would be a more established ministry.

Baby pink: Pale pink is sometimes called baby pink. In dreams, this colour can reflect something new in our life that needs nurturing, for example a new gift/ability or ministry. In a negative sense it could represent childishness or emotional immaturity.

Magenta: This generally represents our emotions.

Darker pink: I have found that sometimes the deeper the pink colour, the deeper and more mature the intimacy with God.

Love: Pink can symbolise love and romance (Valentine’s Day style!),

Conclusion

In a dream pink usually represents love, romance, our relationship with God, or our emotions (which can be positive or negative!).

Here are a few closing thoughts:

  • The colour pink in a dream could represent any number of things. The above ideas should give you a good starting point.
  • I believe that only God can tell us what the colour means in a specific dream, so you could try asking Him!
  • Consider the atmosphere and context of the dream to see whether the colour is being used in a positive or negative sense.
  • In addition to the meanings that I have shared, remember that it could mean something personal or culturally significant to you, that isn’t mentioned here.

And, of course, dreams themselves are a great way to develop your relationship with God. So if you start taking notice of your dreams and want to know God better, you may find that you start dreaming of pink!

Dreams are a great way of developing your relationship with God!

  1. Thank you so much for this insightful writing. It’s hard these days not to dabble in the psychic realm of dream interpretations. I was so relieved to find your blog. Much of what you teach resonates with my spirit and aligns with what the late John Paul Jackson taught about dream interpretation. As a blogger, I appreciate the time it takes to study, meditate, pray, write and get this post ready for others to read. I acknowledge your contribution to the body of Christ and want to thank you. God bless you richly.

  2. Hi! I had a dream that I was holding one forest green sparkly long dress and one sparkly bright pink dress as well, and I remember feeling like I didn’t want these dresses anymore even though they were mine in the dream and I did loved them. Then, this older mother with her daughter told me to be careful with the dresses, to take care of them. This is a rare dream for me, even though it was very short. Any comments on what it could me? Thank you by the way for the posting of what pink might mean in our dreams!! Very interesting

    1. Hi Raven, it’s interesting that you called the dress forest green, because to me that suggests a leadership role (forest = trees which can be leadership) that you’ve had for a long time (long dress). Does that resonate? If so, the pink dress might be a ministry. Jenny

      1. Hi thank you so much for replying so soon! Yes I believe it does resonate with me. In the past I have been involved with leadership
but lately I really haven’t. I was part of a ministry but not anymore. Now that I think of it, it’s a sad dream because it pointed out that I was trying to leave those good things in my life.

      2. That seems to tie up then. Rather than seeing it as a sad thing, I would take it as an encouragement that those things you have done have great value to God, and are still important.
